Mya-Rose Craig

Mya-Rose Craig AKA Birdgirl is a 17 year old prominent birder and environmentalist having been a Bristol European Green Capital 2015 Ambassador along with Kevin McCloud and Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall and listed with George Ezra and Maisie Williams as one of Bristol’s most influential young people. She writes a blog, Birdgirl, has been at the forefront of the fight against racism and for ethnic diversity within the environmental sector and is involved in Extinction Rebellion, Youth Strikes for Climate and Youth for our Planet, stopping species loss. She has organised two Race Equality in Nature Conferences to investigate how to engage Visible Minority Ethnic people with nature and encourage them into the environmental sector.

She has organised nine nature camps for children and teenagers since she was 13 years old, written lots of articles, given many talks and regularly appears in the media. She was on a panel with George Monbiot and Caroline Lucas MP, a Minister in Chris Packham’s People’s Manifesto for Wildlife, speaking at his People’s Walk for Wildlife in front of 10,000 people in Hyde Park, has had meetings at Downing Street and was included in Bristol’s BME Top 100 Power List 2019. She is now organising her third conference, Race Equality in Nature: Making Wildlife Film-making Inclusive for early 2020.

Her reason for being optimistic about the future: "watching the huge numbers of people protesting in the streets makes me feel really optimistic that change is coming and that global governments will soon take the necessary action needed to stop climate breakdown."
