Lily - Action for Conservation Youth speaker

Lily

Lily is 16 years old and grew up in Cambridge. In 2017 she attended a conservation camp hosted by Action for Conservation and has been involved in a variety of environmental activities since as an AFC Ambassador. She made waves with two viral videos that she created on plastic pollution and the biodiversity crisis that have over 800,000 views on Twitter, and she volunteers at her local community garden and on other nature restoration projects. In 2018 she became an Ambassador for the #iwill youth social action campaign, where she had the opportunity to speak to DEFRA about the inclusion of young people in environmental decision making and last September spoke on the Meet the Changemakers of Today panel at the Conservation Optimism conference in Oxford. As a member of the Youth Leadership Group for the Penpont Project, she has helped shape the vision for the project and currently drives decisions around research and restoration, communications and outreach.

Her reason for optimism: "These past couple of years the world seems to be starting to mobilise and become aware of the climate and biodiversity crisis - and at the forefront of that shift has been young people, educating themselves, demanding change and - in some cases - getting that change. Continuing this momentum, the increased inclusion and diversity in the movement I believe can bring about the results we need to escape climate catastrophe."
