Junayd Ul Islam

Junayd Ul Islam is a 16 year old Cambridge Youth Striker 4 Climate.

Originally involved is social justice and peace activism, he was inspired by Greta Thunberg to turn his climate consciousness into real action and took to the streets in the February Nationwide Youth Strike 4 Climate (2019). Since then he has been an active member of the Cambridge Eco Council, who organise the Cambridge Youth Strikes as well as showing solidarity to other climate justice organisations, making a presence at community events, meeting with local businesses and talking to politicians to encourage constructive action for a sustainable future. He is now Co-chair of the Cambridge Eco Council, helping to bring the strikers’s (and his own!) ambitious ideas for protest to life; bringing city wide, national and even global attention to a range of climate related issues including mass flooding, wildfires and consumerism.

His reason for being optimistic about the future: "When I see what kids can do when we come together, what awareness we can spread, what pressure we can put on politicians, and what change we can bring, I am reminded of Greta's saying "Once we start to act, hope is everywhere", continue to fight and you will never lose hope."
